Glossary
Plain-English meaning of every term used in this guide, in one place.
Selling
Counter
A physical till or checkout point at a branch — also called a register. A branch can have several counters, each with its own hardware and its own session.
Hold / held order
A cart saved mid-sale so the cashier can serve another customer, then resume it later from exactly where it was left off.
Split tender
Paying for one sale with more than one payment method — for example, part cash and part card.
Credit note
A document issued when stock is returned, recording the value the customer is owed — either refunded directly or held as store credit.
Store credit
A balance a customer can spend on a future purchase, usually created from a return instead of a cash refund.
Stock & catalog
SKU
Stock-keeping unit — the unique code identifying one specific sellable item or variant in your catalog.
Variant
One specific combination of a product's option groups (e.g. "Red, Large") — each variant has its own SKU, barcode, price and stock.
Option group
A product attribute you define once, like Size or Color, used to generate a product's variants.
Batch (lot)
A tracked group of stock received together, sharing one expiry date — used for products where shelf life matters, such as food or pharmacy items.
FEFO
First-expiry-first-out — the rule the POS uses to automatically sell the batch closest to expiring before any later-dated batch of the same product.
Reorder level
The stock quantity at or below which a product is flagged as low stock, prompting a restock.
Branch
One physical location of your store. Branches share the same product catalog and customer list but each keep their own stock levels and counters.
Money
Tax group
A named set of tax components (and whether prices are tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive) that a product or category is assigned, used to calculate the tax on a sale.
On account
A sale a customer is allowed to take now and pay for later, up to their credit limit — tracked as a balance they owe the store.
Receivable
Money a customer owes your store — the balance tracked against their "on account" purchases until they pay it off.
Payable
Money your store owes a supplier — the balance tracked against a purchase bill until you pay it.
MRR
Monthly recurring revenue — the platform's combined subscription income from every store, expressed as a monthly figure.
People & access
Role
A named bundle of permissions (e.g. Cashier, Manager) assigned to a staff member, so an Admin doesn't have to tick the same individual permissions for every new hire.
Permission
One specific action a signed-in person can or can't do (e.g. "process a refund," "edit a product price"). Permissions are what a role is made of.
Module
A whole feature area of the product — such as Purchasing, Reports or Expenses — that is unlocked for a store's account based on its subscription plan. A store without a module simply has no sidebar section for it, for anyone in that store, regardless of their role.
Shift
The period between a cashier opening and closing a till, during which sales, cash-ins and cash-outs are tracked against a starting cash float for reconciliation.
The platform
Tenant / store
One shop's complete, isolated account on the MiniMart platform — its own products, branches, staff, customers and sales, kept separate from every other store on the installation.
Superadmin
An account type with no store and no branch, used only by the person or company operating the whole MiniMart platform to manage every tenant, their billing, and platform-wide settings. See The control plane.
Impersonation
A superadmin signing in as a specific store's owner, to see exactly what that store sees for support purposes. Always logged — who impersonated which store, and when it started and ended.
Plan (package)
A subscription tier a store buys, defining its price, branch/staff limits and which modules it unlocks. See Packages, plans & gateways.
Payment gateway (platform layer)
Credentials the platform itself holds to charge stores their subscription fee — separate from a store's own payment gateways, which charge that store's customers.
API key
A credential used to authenticate an external integration against an API. A store's own API keys (Settings) only ever reach that store's data; the platform's API keys (superadmin console) reach across every tenant.
Print agent
A small program running on a till's own computer that MiniMart talks to in order to print receipts and pulse open a cash drawer — neither of which the browser can do directly.
