First steps
Your first login walks you through a short, required setup wizard. This page covers that wizard plus the handful of things worth doing in your first day — ending with your first real sale.
Overview
The first time anyone signs in to a brand-new MiniMart store, the app doesn't drop you straight onto the dashboard — it runs a required 3-step wizard first: company details, your currency, and your first branch. You can't skip it, because almost every screen in MiniMart (prices, receipts, reports) needs those three things to already exist. Once the wizard is done, you land on the real dashboard and the app behaves normally from then on.
Why it's useful
Getting these basics right on day one — correct currency, a real branch name, accurate company details on your receipts — saves you from going back and fixing historical sales records later. Prices, tax calculations and receipt numbering are all set up around the currency and branch you choose here, so it's worth getting them right before you start ringing up real sales.
Step by step
The required onboarding wizard
- Step 1 — Company details
Enter your business name, address and contact details. This is what prints on receipts and invoices, so use your real trading name, not a placeholder.
- Step 2 — Currency
Choose the currency your store sells in (for example ₹ Indian Rupee, as in the screenshots throughout this guide). This sets how every price, total and report is formatted from here on — it can be changed later in Store profile & plan, but it's much simpler to pick correctly now, before you've recorded any sales.
- Step 3 — First branch
Name your first physical location (e.g. "Main Store" or your shop's actual name/address). Every sale, stock count and shift is recorded against a branch, so this is the location your team will actually be selling from.
The rest of your first day
- Double-check your store profile
Visit Settings → Store profile & plan and confirm the details carried over from the wizard look right.
- Add a second branch if you have one
If you run more than one physical location, add the rest now in Multi-branch — the product catalog is shared across all of them, only stock and price overrides are per-branch.
- Add your first products
Go to Products & variants and add a few real items with a price and, if you use one, a barcode. You don't need your full catalog loaded before you can start selling — a handful of items is enough to test the whole flow.
- Decide on payment methods
Cash works out of the box with nothing to configure. If you want to accept card or UPI payments through a gateway, set one up in Money & tax settings — otherwise just leave it cash-only for now and add a gateway later.
- Invite your team
If anyone else will be using MiniMart — a cashier, a manager — add them in Staff & roles with the role that matches what they should be able to see and do.
- Open a shift and make your first sale
Open the POS screen (press F1 from anywhere in the back office), open a shift for your register, and ring up your first test sale end to end — scan or search an item, take a payment, and print or share the receipt.
Tips & best practices
- Pick your currency carefully in the wizard — changing it after you've recorded real sales gets messy fast.
- Use your shop's actual name and address in company details from the start; it's what prints on every receipt your customers see.
- Add just a few products first and run a full test sale before importing your entire catalog — it's much easier to spot a setup mistake with five products than with five hundred.
- If you have staff, set up their logins and roles before they need to use the till during business hours, not in the middle of a rush.
- Bookmark the dashboard — it's where you'll start every day once setup is done.
Notes & warnings
You cannot reach the dashboard or any other screen until all three onboarding steps are complete — there is no "skip for now." This is deliberate: nothing else in the app can price a sale or print a receipt without a currency and a branch already set.
Staff you invite later sign in directly to the dashboard (scoped to whatever their role allows) — the onboarding wizard only ever runs once, for the very first admin account on a brand-new store.
